This has been what I've been looking at and working on for the past several weeks - out in the hot, sweaty, stickiness of what is my garage. This commission is for an 8'x 16' aluminum/copper flag in a huge office building. Needless to say, the thing is huge (from my stand point) and very time consuming. But FUN AS HELL!
The above pic is the plannishing hammer which is...VERY LOUD!! But it shapes and forms the metal to the curves and contours I need in the long metal stripes.

The copper is the fun part too - because when you first get it, it is actually a very light pinkish color. So, to get the deeper red hue, I actually have to put a torch to it for a certain amount of time until the color starts to turn a light red. If I over fire it - it will immediately turn to this really nice blue color...but NOT what I need for this particular project, so I really have to be careful when torching this metal....heh heh fire, yeah....heh heh... ^____^
You can see the sample below of how the copper and aluminum stripes will look once assembled onto the wall together. It creates a wonderful contrast and the copper really sets it apart when in the light.
Here's a view from under the arch of a few of the stripes. I really like this angle, you can see a bit of the hammered look I have been creating in the metal as well. Looks even cooler in the copper to boot.

And yes, because of the incredibly loud plannishing hammer, I have to wear these very spiffy "ear muffs" to drown out some of the noise...still able to listen to mah tunes with them on, so I'm good. ^^

Well, that be it for now, folks. At least you have a taste of what I've been up to. Trust me, once this puppy is done, you bet your lil' buns I'm gonna have pics of it up on this site!! Till then, this site will be half of what it should be till I have time to get 'er done.
Now, back to the cat cave (AKA: stinky garage)....!!!
